Philippine cyber services pioneer awards
ComputerWorld - Philippines, July 2006
Companies that played pioneering roles in the country's IT-enabled services industry, also referred to as “cyber services”, were honored in the first ever Philippine Cyber Services Pioneer Awards (PCSPA).
The PCSPA was held Monday night last week during the general assembly of the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) for the month of June.
Winners were selected from the nominees for each segment of the local cyber services industry namely; animation, back-office processing, software development, medical transcription and customer contact centers (commonly referred to as call centers).
For each segment, nominees were further classified into three categories: Foreign Captive (a direct Philippine-based subsidiary serving the internal requirements of its parent company), Foreign Third-Party (a direct subsidiary offering third-party services) and Local (a locally-owned company offering third-party services).
Special awards of distinction were also given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in their respective fields in cyber services. These were Norman dela Cruz (animation), William Pfluger (back-office processing), Augusto Lagman and Emma Teodoro (software development) and Evelyn Abat (medical transcription).
For the customer contact category, the special award was given to the Call Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP).
Special awards were also given to Eastwood City CyberPark as the country's first IT park to cater to cyber services, and to the Quezon City government for hosting the country's first IT park and for being an outstanding local government unit (LGU) model of e-governance in action.
Individual awards of distinction were also given to Philippine Export Zone Authority (PEZA) director general Lilia De Lima and former CICT chairman Virgilio Pena.
